Cambodia and the United States of America (USA) have discussed a draft law on cybercrime, according to the local media report.
The consultation took place via online recently with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, the U.S. Ministry of Justice and the four U.S. leading technology companies like Facebook, Oracle, Amazon and Google.
H.E. Bun Hun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior, shared in the meeting the government’s effort in fighting against cybercrime and the law has been drafted by the Ministry of Interior since 2016.
The compilation of the law needs engagement of international experts, especially from the U.S. in order to ensure practicality and accuracy of the legislation.
Mr. Michael Nebill, Mission’s Vice Chief to the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh and Coordinator of International Sides for the virtual meeting, underlined the significance of the law, which will contribute to preventing cybercrime, rights protection and trust building among foreign investment.
He added that U.S. is ready to help provide Cambodia with technical support for the above mentioned-draft law on cybercrime.
